Light Sources

The performance of any light fixture depends very much on the light source (bulb) used. Different sources produce different effects. Light is measured in terms of:

Wattage
The amount of electricity consumed by a bulb.

Lumens
The amount of light that a bulb produces.

Footcandles
The amount of light reaching a subject.

Parabolic Reflector (PAR) bulbs control light more precisely. They produce about four times the light of General Service (A) and are used in recessed and track lighting. Weatherproof casing makes them suitable for outdoor spot and flood fixtures.

LINE VOLTAGE
PAR 16, 20, 30 and 38 reflectorized bulbs provide better beam control than regular incandescent PAR bulbs. Available in numerous spot and flood beam spreads. Used in track, recessed, and outdoor spot, and floodlights.

Low-Voltage
MR-11, MR-16 (Mini-Reflectors) provide excellent beam control. Available in numerous spot and flood beam spread. Miniature size permits use in smaller track and recessed fixtures. Also used in outdoor spotlights.

Transformer Compatibility
LED MR16 spot light is designed to fit with standard halogen MR16 fixture. Two types low-voltage transformers are used with LED MR16: magnetic and electronic. In either case, do not use LED MR16 with transformers whose output exceeds 13.5 VAC. Consider the following when selecting an appropriate transformer for use with LED MR16.
• Magnetic: LED MR16 is compatible with all types of magnetic transformers used with 12 volt lighting. Additionally, magnetic transformers are considered more reliable than electronic transformers. However, magnetic transformers are heavier, less efficient, and sometimes make noise (buzzing).
• Electronic: LED MR16 is not compatible with some of electronic transformers due to its low power consumption. Most electronic transformers require a minimum load greater than 5.5 watts in order to work properly.
• Transformers can be integral to the fixture or remotely located, and can be used to power a group of fixtures, tracks, cables, or rails.excellent beam control. Available in numerous spot and flood beam spread. Miniature size permits use in smaller track and recessed fixtures. Also used in outdoor spotlights.
